Hey all! Looks like Japan's getting a PS3 rerelease of Tales of Symphonia, bundling both the GCN/PS2 classic and the sequel together into one package. Unfortunately, details are pretty scarce at the moment, but you can check out a bit more here on Silicon Era! For now, here's Baba-san announcing it, with an English release slated for 2014:

How do you feel about this? Excited? Disappointed? Frustrated?

I have no words for how excited I am.. no words at all. It's going to be a great year for us Tales fans. First with Tales of Xillia and then with this news!

Well I think that they've realized that everyone is clamouring for new Tales and honestly Tales is shaping up to be what the Final Fantasy franchise used to be. You can't really americanize tales came like Square Enix has done with the Final Fantasy series (and has somehow caused it to become less enjoyable). And it's sad, I used to be the biggest FF fan ever however when their releases started becoming lackluster, I just stopped caring. That is when I played Vesperia and it was like the series that I've always wanted, beautiful characterisations, compelling storylines and it makes you laugh, cry and d'awww all at the same time.

Pretty much, Namco has my pocketbook now.

I already have both the original game and the sequel on Gamecube/Wii but I will probably still keep an eye out for this when it comes out and goes cheap. Should be interesting to see how it upscales the graphics with the HD. Looking forward to it, even it if might not be a priority since I do already have the games if I want to play through them for now. Heck, it might even bring in new fans if they consistently release the previous games on a single console rather than having them be scatter among quite a few different ones (Wii, Gamecube, 3DS, PSP.....)

Yes, it would be handy! I already have Graces f and am looking forward to Xillia when that is released. I guess we shall wait and see how things go with them potentially releasing others for the PS3 as well.

I'm going to be optimistic, because with what info we have, it's either that or be curious about a bunch of info that hasn't been released yet. Mostly "yay, I get to finally play Dawn because I'm not buying a Wii for one game."

Also it's releasing well after the end of the Digimon DVD sets announced so far, so my wallet is happy for that break.

I'm half-excited half-disappointed tbh. Excited because we get to replay Symphonia. Disappointed because it's another lazy port; I really wanted a remake, Vesperia-style or something, but this just crushes any hope. Also I would have liked them to at least harmonize ToS and Dawn, like idk, at least remake Dawn in Symphonia's style, instead of pasting the game as-is on the same disc. Hope they at least bring some changes to the battle system etc. Frankly, I think this is a bit of a waste of the PS3's potential. I'd have rather this port had been on handheld consoles, like the 3DS or the Vita...

The latest entries in the series have been really frustrating to me. I was hoping for an Abyss and a Symphonia PS3 remake, and in both cases we got a port. I was hoping for a Xillia Director's Cut, and we got a lazy sequel instead. I hope this at least is giving them the time and resources they need to make a great new mothership...
